DS90UB953-Q1: Intermittent lock between custom serializer board the DS90UB954 EVM using the ALP

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP

Hello All,

We have a custom board using the DS90UB953 serializer. We are currently having problems trying to get the the serializer to form a stable link with the DS90UB954 EVM even using the ALP software. We currently do not have the sensor connected and are just trying to get a link in synchronous clocking mode over coax. The link has a pattern of sporadic for ~200ms and then drops out for ~400ms. Also I have a few more questions below from my debug thus far.

1. Should the refclock feeding the 954 should be correlated in reconstructed CLKOUT of the Serializer? They are the same frequency and are stable but have no correlation.

2. Do we need to configure any registers to get the initial link between the 954/953?

Thanks,

Ben Roy

  • Hello,
Do you have a DS90UB953 EVM as well so you can test the 953 to 954 link in a EVM to EVM setup? No special settings are needed to get the initial lock once you have the ALP profiles loaded properly. You can refer to the EVM users guide for details.

You can enable the BIST mode and monitor PASS to verify the link integrity between the serializer and deserializer. Refer to the deserializer datasheet for additional information on BIST mode. We also have a video training module on the diagnostics and debug features in the FPD-Link learning center on the web. Please refer to the link at the bottom here.
  • Hi Benjamin,

As long as both devices are operating in the same mode (synchronous), there should be no trouble in getting a link with the SERDES. The REFCLK should be the same frequency or a multiple and be locked.

For setting registers, double check you're enabling the correct port, that your SERDES is operating in the same mode, and that you have the appropriate back channel frequency (50 Mbps for synchronous).

    Regards,
    Jonny
