    The link between FPD-Link serializer and deserializer can work automatically without any special register writes. In some cases you can use registers such as reset, I2C access to control the device. You can use Analog Launchpad (ALP) software to bring up the link and program the registers if needed. http://www.ti.com/tool/alp

    ALP can support manual register changes as well as external python scripts to make the changes. You can refer to the EVM user guides/datasheets for python script examples.
