TCAN1042-Q1: Common mode choke coil

Part Number: TCAN1042-Q1

Hi,

I'm hearing that TCAN1042 can eliminate Common Mode Choke coil(per OEM) as below link.

I would like to know why it can be eliminated.

I guess that it is why CANH and CANL are symmetrical as specified on the datasheet.

Is it correct?

Best Regards,

Kuramochi

  • Hello Kuramochi-san,

Yes, the reason that TCAN1042 allows for chokeless operation is its excellent performance with respect to EM immunity and emissions. Emissions are low because CANH and CANL are well-matched (symmetrical), meaning the common mode signal (average of CANH and CANL) remains relatively static even as the bus toggles between dominant and recessive states. Immunity is high because of some internal filtering as well as the internal matching (which helps to improve common-mode noise rejection of the receiver input).

Please just let me know if you have any further questions.

    Regards,
    Max
