Dear
please refer to attached ppt, some question about SN65DSI86
1. What is the maximum LCM cable length that SN65DSI86 can support? Does TI can evaluate LCM cable maximum length?
2. Does SN65DSI86 have driving strength can setting?

Ethan,
1. SN65DSI86 maximum cable length supported can vary due to the quality of the cable. However the DP side of SN65DSI86 has been tested with a 3 meter cable (color bar pattern) and passed.
2. SN65DSI86 can has output settings that can be changed through the registers in Table 28 in the datasheet. This changes the VOD and pre-emphasis of the output.
Dear Malik
Thanks for your reply.
about Q1, does this test using SN65DSI86 demo board? What is the eDP routing length? What is the condition VOD and PRE-EMPHASIS level setting pass the test? Could you share cable information or model?
one more question,
Q3, in the datasheet "Layout Guidelines", 12. The maximum trace length over FR4 between SN65DSI86 and the eDP receptacle is 4 inches for data rates less than or equal to HBR (2.7 Gbps) and 2 inches for HBR2 (5.4 Gbps). Can I have conclusion : between SN65DSI86 and the eDP receptacle 4 inches routing in PCB (data rates less than 2.7 Gbps), with 3 meter cable (color bar pattern) also can pass the eDP spec?

Ethan,
The test I mention previously was with the SN65DSI86 EVM but was only a functional test. I can send you the layout file so that you have an example layout, routing on EVM is ~1771 mils. The cable used was a standard DP cable not a LCM cable and I do not have cable information. I do not have the VOD and PRE-EMPHASIS setting used for that particular test however I do believe we tested with default settings. As mentioned before the test was functional and not a compliance test, so I cannot confirm this.
Dear Malik
SN65DSI86 can provide 6 db (max) of pre-emphasis on its output. Is this 6dB at data rate 2.7Gbps or 5.4Gbps?
