TMDS181: TMDS181 is polarity inversion mode

Hello,

I have question on polarity inversion mode: if I connect to TMDS181 (or DP159) as shown below, I believe that I do not use the chip in polarity inversion mode, correct? Actually, am I allowed to connect the inputs as shown? The input signal- and signal+ are referred to the HDMI connector connection.

and if I connect the chip as below then I use it in polarity inversion mode, and I am limited to retimer mode only, correct?

I am looking into if you can use the dp159 in retimer mode like shown in the first image. You can use the first schematic with the DP159 in redriver mode. Your second image is correct and you are limited to only retimer mode with polarity swap.

Hello Michael,

If you believe the connections in the 2nd schematic is correct as TMDS181 is in polarity inversion then should connections in 1st schematic also correct but TMDS181 NOT in polarity inversion mode?

We will use the TMDS181 in always retimer mode.

I have talked to the design team and both of those schematics are correct with the first schematic not requiring polarity inversion and the second requiring polarity inversion.
