LMH0303: Using the LMH0303 cable driver to drive a 50R cable

Part Number: LMH0303
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH0302, DS30BA101

Hi,

I plan to use the LMH0303 cable driver to drive a 50R cable rather than 75R. This is for a video application running at 2.97Gbps, but with a bespoke protocol (i.e. it's not 3G-SDI, but it is line balanced)

From the Application Circuit in the data-sheet, I guess I need to change the termination resistors on the SDO outputs from 75R to 50R.

I also assume I would also need to change the value of RREF from the nominal 750R to ensure I maintain the 800mV amplitude on the line, but there is no indication what the value required for a 50R cable may be.

So my questions are:

1) Is this a valid application for this device?

2) How do I calculate the required value for RREF?

Thanks

Dave
