DS30BA101: Could DS30BA101 and DS30EA101 with single ended 50 Ohm cable ?

Hi Team,

Could you please allow me to ask about DS30BA/EA101 cable extender device ?

One question we have is that if this device pair could be used with single end 50 Ohm cable like DS15BA/EA101.

Would it be difficult for long term stability, since having higher load current from driver side ?

Schematic design what we are thinking is to copy DS15BA/EA101, setting the output amplitude to 800mV at 50 Ohm single end.

    Hi Kawai-San,

    DS30BA/EA/101 could be used to drive and equalize single ended 50-ohm media. In this mode, you can use DS15BA/EA?101 schematic as you noted. Having said this, it is expected that differential mode could have a better performance because there is less common mode noise.

    I believe, DS30BA/EA101 is not tested for single end 50 Ohm use case.

    However, would you be able to guarantee specification or operation in the use case of single end 50 Ohm for long life, similar like DS15BA/EA101 ?

    Hi Kawai-San,

    We cannot guarantee single ended operation. Customer should do evaluation to make sure this meets their requirements. Also, please note in DS15BA/EA101 there is no mention of guaranteed operation.

    Hello Nasser-san,

    My understanding is that DS15BA/EA101 mentions that is supports 50 Ohm Coax cable.

    There is typical application diagram in the DS15BA/EA101 datasheet page 1 and there are some electrical characteristics specification noted with Belden 9914 condition. (However, not mentioned in DS30BA/EA101.)


    Doesn't these mean that TI is saying that user could use this DS15BA/EA101 for 50 Ohm single ended coax cable driving/receiving device ?

    What do you mean by "TI cannot guarantee single ended operation" ?

    Hi Kawai-San,

    In data sheet, DS30 or DS15, there is no mention of guaranteed operation and this is what I was referring to.

    DS30EA/BA101 operate in single ended 75-ohm coax media. The only difference is that when using 50-ohm termination with DS30EA101 the voltage swing is less. Actually DS30EA101 has higher gain than DS15EA101 since DS30 uses 2.5V higher performance equalizer core versus DS15 3.3V equalizer . So I expect a better performance for DS30EA single-ended 50-ohm media operation.
