HD3SS3220: How to improve HD3SS3220 ESD issue

Dear Sir,

My customer test ESD (8kV) fail when using HD3SS3220 externally connected Hard Disk (or SSD).

The reason for the failure is that no hard disk (or SSD) can be detected.

Could you tell me what are the possible causes of failure and improvement measures?

e.x

Customer has used ESD 7528T and ESD 0551P for ESD protection.

what kind of ESD test is it? is it contact or air? Where do you apply the ESD test?

Hi Michael

Apply ESD 8kV to the iron shell (air).

Product is POS system.

Sorry for the delay I am trying to get someone from another group at TI involved this does not sound like an issue with the HD3SS3220 but with the ESD parts that you are using. What ESD parts are you using?

Can customer use software to reset HD3SS3220 If customer still have ESD issue ?

Ronald,

It will usually reset if they are striking just the ground plane which is causing the device to shut off. Does it actually damage or does it just start working when manually reset? Also what pins are they using that ESD protection device on?

Components are not damaged during ESD testing but need to be manually reset.
2. Also what pins are they using that ESD protection device on?
CC1,CC2 ,TX2p ,TX2n ,RX2p ,RX2n, TX1p ,TX1n ,RX1p ,RX1n, hvve used ESD protection device on.
