DS90UB948-Q1: Maximum resolution and blanking

Part Number: DS90UB948-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB949-Q1,

Can the DS90UB949-Q1 and DS90UB948-Q1 support a 2304x1152 resolution at a pixel clock rate of 170MHz?  Are there any horizontal and vertical blanking requirements for these devices?

Thanks,

George

  • Hi George,

What is the refresh rate that you are aiming for on your display? Typically this is 60fps for IVI applications. The DS90UB948/949 can accept a maximum pixel clock rate of 170MHz. The display manufacturer should give the horizontal and vertical blanking intervals, as they are unique for each display, but are typically 25-35% horizontal blanking and 2-5% vertical blanking.

You can use this equation to see if your system requirements would be able to meet the limit of a 170MHz PCLK:

PCLK = Htotal x Vtotal x Refresh Rate

Htotal = Active number of Horizontal Pixels + Overhead

Vtotal = Active number of Vertical Pixels + Overhead

If we were to assume you are aiming for a 60fps refresh rate, and minimum blanking -- 25% horizontal and 2% vertical:

    PCLK = (2304  x 1.25) x (1152 x 1.02) x 60fps =  203.05 MHz

In this case if you were aiming for the specs calculated above, the DS90UB948/949 would not be able to support this display. However, the blanking requirements could be better or worse than my example calculation above, and you can always compensate this by having just a slight downgrade in the refresh rate.

    Regards,

    Jonny

  • Thanks for the replay. When I ask if the DS90UB948/949 can support 2304x1152 at 170MHz I am assuming reduced blanking at 60Hz. I want to confirm that these devices can handle:

    - an image this size of 2304 x 1152
    - vertical blanking as low as 14 lines
    - horizontal blanking as low as 64 pixels

    Thanks,

    George

  • George,

I believe that it should be able to handle those requirements.
