Hi Team,

My customer considers to use TUSB320HAI or TUSB320LAI for UFP application.

1)
Is there any criteria to decide GPIO mode or I2C mode?
I believe the difference is the following only and decision is up to customer.



2)
I believe OUT1 and OUT2 aren't required to be connected to MCU and can be left open if my customer uses GPIO mode.
Is my understanding correct?

    1. you can decide to use I2C mode or GPIO mode based on how you set the ADDR Pin. You can decide I2C mode or GPIO mode by if you want to read or write to the registers in the TUSB320 if you do not you can leave it in GPIO mode.

    2. They are not required to be connected to a MCU in GPIO mode.

    Thank you for your support.
    My customer considers to use TUSB320LAI with GPIO mode for UFP application however I asked the following in addition.

    1)
    My customer wants to know if it is possible to set only pull-down resistors(Rd) on CC pins without TUSB320LAI (CC controller) to achieve Type-C solution.
    Is it possible?
    I believe VBUS detection is also required but would like to have your comments.

    2)
    If my customer use the following solution, do you recommend VBUS OVP switch to protect VDD pin of TUSB320LAI from VBUS over voltage?
    He concerns VBUS overshoot when hot plug of Type-C cable.

    it is possible to put pull down resistors on the CC lines but you will lose functionality like the ability to detect cable direction.

    The TUSB320 should not need any more OVP circuit but you can add it if you would like to.
