PCA9306: Can use same 3.3 V power source for both VREF1 and VREF2 ?

Part Number: PCA9306

Hi Sir,

I would like to use PCA9306 to isolate I2C signals only, due to I do not need to do voltage translation, therefore, both VREF1 and VREF2 are connected to 3.3V power rail, the voltage level of I2C signals on both side are still 3.3V, can I design this way ?

Spec mentioned, to support translation, VREF1 supports 1.2 V to VREF2 - 0.6 V. VREF2 must be between VREF1 + 0.6 V to 5.5 V. If the application does not need to do voltage translation design, shall I still need to consider the VREF2 must be between VREF1 + 0.6 V to 5.5 V ?

Thanks.

Joseph

  • Hello Joseph,

You seem to be new to E2E.  I would highly recommend that you first do a search within our E2E forum for the question you are asking.  It is highly likely that someone before you ask the question previously.

For example, type in the top of the search bar "PCA9306 to isolate", you will see several posts that contain similar information.  I simple selected the first post and reviewed it to see if it indeed answer your question.  In this case it does.

Here is the link to the first post.

In the future, if for some reason after a few minutes you can't find the answer then by all means post the question.  We are always happy to answer your questions, but we do try to minimize repeated posts and hope that you use the search feature of E2E so that you can save time for your self.

Let me know if you have any unanswered questions or need clarification on a post.
