TUSB564RNQEVM: TUSB564RNQEVM

Part Number: TUSB564RNQEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB564, TPS65982,

Hi Sir ,

I have have purchased TI evaluation board " TUSB564RNQEVM"  and here when i connect Display Sink to this device and Type C to my laptop . Display is always link train to 2 lane only and did all settings specified on  user manual and Data sheet , but its not working . I used this device in GIPO mode where we can configure the device for DP and USB

Configuration i used  CTL = 1 CTL = 0 Flip = 1/0  it never configure to 4 lane DP

Note : If i connect with out this device directly USB type C to DP cable  it works and ( 8.1gbps , 4 lane )

What is the DC voltage on AUXP and AUXN? And have you tried to change the SSEQ0 and SSEQ1 jumper setting? When it is 2 lane only, is it 5.4G or 8.1G?

If you modified the board by removing R73/74 and R79/R80, and short from Type C connector SBU1 to DP connector AUXN, and Type C connector SBU2 to DP connector AUXP, does the laptop do link train in 4 lanes?

    Thanks

    David

  • Thanks for the reply David ..!!

Voltage is around 2.2 volts at AUXP and AUXN pin and i did not changed SSEQ and SSEQ1 settings and using default .
Link training is with 2Lane + 5.4G only always .( my laptop max support is 5.4G only not 8.1G).

Removed R73/74 and R79/R80 and connected SBU1 to AUXN and SBU2 to AUXB pin , but still same problem.

Need to do something with PD controller here ? Please help me how to change my configuration to 4lane + 5.4G ( 4K @ 60hz)

To configure into 4 lane DP mode, you need to clear the multi-function bit (set this bit to 0) in the PD controller. When this bit is set, then PD controller will configure TUSB564 into USB + 2 lane DP. But even in 2 lane DP mode, the DP source needs to request the DP sink to be configured in 2 lane DP only.

The voltage on AUXP is not correct. It needs to be in the range of 0 to 0.4V for the AUX switch to work properly. Do you have the model number of the laptop you are using?

Please see the picture below, is this how you connected the SBU1 to AUXN and SBU2 to AUXP? Since SBU1/2 to AUXP/N switching is not handled by TUSB564, I am expecting at least one Type C orientation would work, did you try both flip and non-flip case? What is the voltage on AUXP/N?

Can you also please send me the marking on TUSB564?

    Thanks

    David

  • Thanks David ..

My laptop is HP EliteBook 820 G3

I did not checked on Flip case will check and update you .

Can you help me how to change the multi-function bit in PD controller and this  required any additional tools to update configuration for PD .

Please share if you have have a document on how to configure PD controller over I2C.

  • Thanks David ..!!

I have gone through the documents you are share and in that they are told to use  " Aardvark tool " for SPI , but i dont have that . I have I2C read/ write tool which can be used to update I2C registers from external PC.

Here unable to find I2C  slave address for my PD Controller.

As per spec it will be calculated by pin I2C_ADDR  and DEBUG_CTL1/2,  but here this pins are connected to DIP Switch ( SW1) . Please help me if we change this DIP switch position can identify the I2C Slave address.

    My device is " TUSB564RNQEVM"  SL No : 1243591 ( PD Controller  TPS65986)

You can find more information on the slave i2c address setting in section 8.5 of the TPS65986 datasheet.

    Thanks

  • Hi Sir,

I have brought Aardvark  tool to configure my TUSB664 device to disable  " Multifunction Preferred " function bit  using  TPS6598x Utilities GUI. But here unable change registers / even its not detecting the board i feel .

    Procedure i used :

    1. Connected Aardvark tool SPI/I2C cable to TUSB546EVM  J7 Connector

    2. TUSB546EVM  connected to USB Type C Cable for power ( power LEDs are glowing in TUSB546EVM device   )

    3. Aardvark USB cable  is connected to PC and installed the USB driver .

    4. Installed application  TPS6598x Utilities GUI

    5. Open  TPS6598x Utilities GUI and checking but its not detecting .

Please help here any other settings im missing here ?

Tried I2C scanner button and its not working its showing " Beginning scan " always

  • David is out for the week and will get back to you as soon as he gets back.
  • Sheshumurthy

This is more a PD controller programming issue, not a TUSB564 issue, would you please create a separate e2e ticket?

    Thanks

    David

  • Thanks for your support ..

Will create new ticket for this PD controller
