To be clear, can you confirm this device is capable of supporting a classic CAN protocol *in addition* to the FD? We do not currently use CAN FD, and are currently using very little of the available bandwidth at 1 Mbit/s. However, the next generation hardware will support the FD and it is preferred to not have to re-deign the board.
The datasheet has two statements that are conflicting, hence my questions:
Statement 1 implies FD only:
These CAN transceivers meet the ISO11898-2 (2016) High Speed CAN (Controller Area Network) physical layer
standard. They are designed for data rates in excess of 1 Mbps for CAN FD and enhanced timing margin /
higher data rates in long and highly-loaded networks. These devices provide many protection features to
enhance device and CAN robustness.
Statement 2:
All Devices Support Classic CAN and 2 Mbps
CAN FD (Flexible Data Rate)
