TPS2549-Q1: When does this IC provide 3A?

Part Number: TPS2549-Q1

Hi,

Under which circumstances does this IC provide 3A. The DCP mode only goes until 1.5A, according to the datasheet 3A are supported. Does this IC then have to run in CDP mode with identification of the charge current through D+ and D– potential? Or does it have to be switched through the three control buses?

Thanks

Fred

  • Hi, Fred,

In DCP mode, some Apple device can charge more than 1.5A, such as iPadAir 2.2A, iPad4 2.2A, iPadAire2 1.8A. 3A continuous current is to make sure our part have ability to supply enough current device might sink.

If a device is plug in, this device will detect VBUS, then device will send detection signal on D+/D-. Our part will reply this signal as the charging mode you configured(SDP, CDP, DCP). Then device will recognize the mode and sink current it want.
