DS90UB953-Q1: DS90UB953-Q1 - feature set discription

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1

Please see the questions below. Thanks in advance.

Sync / non-sync mode:

  • In non-sync mode back-channel data rate is lower (10 vs. 50 Mbps). Does this have an effect on PoC filter inductor value (more than 10 µH)?
  • Sync mode: In this mode the deserializer must be connected to a clock source? This clock can also be used for the imager via PLL? Are there any restrictions to the output clock like specific frequencies can not be provided?

 Diagnostics:

  • Can voltage (via GPIO0 and 1) and temperature monitoring be performed simultaneously?
  • Is it possible to do forward channel diagnostics while streaming? I guess this is done by CRC check?
  • Can open or shorted cable be detected with UB953 and UB954 combination?
  • Bit-error rate measurement: Can this be performed inside the chip? Or would we need to attach an oscilloscope to measure it?

CLK_OUT/IDX:

For automotive application you need to use lower value resistors because >100 kOhm are not allowed at most of the OEMs. Would be 56 k and 12 k ok?

Best Regards

Joern

  • Joern,
These are quite a few different topics/questions so might be better to break it apart into separate threads. Let me answer the sync mode question first.

It is correct in the sync mode the REFCLK is provided to the deserializer and that provides the reference through the backchannel for the serializer side where the clock is recovered.
  • Hello Palaniappan,

the diagnostic questions are clarified in another thread. But there are two questions open:

    - In non-sync mode back-channel data rate is lower (10 vs. 50 Mbps). Does this have an effect on PoC filter inductor value (more than 10 µH)?

    - Sync mode: In this mode the deserializer must be connected to a clock source? Do we have to connect an oscillator to the serializer or can this clock be provided via CSI from sensor?

    Thanks and regards,

    Benjamin

  • Hello Benjamin,

    1) you do not need to change the inductor value, only the AC-coupling caps need to be changed to 100nF and 47nF.
    2) In Sync mode the DES must be connected to REFCLK. The Clock will be provided to the SER via Back Channel.
  • Hello Hamzeh,

thanks for the clarification. Do we need to connect external clock to the serializer if we want to use non-sync mode?   Or is there a way to provide the clock via CSI from the sensor?

I guess if we have to connect an external clock we can use the clock source for the sensor (used then for serializer and sensor)?

    Thanks and regards,

    Benjamin

  • Hello,

Yes, it is possible to use the clock source directly to the sensor and run the DS90UB953 off of its internal clock. This is non-synchronous internal clock mode and will be included in datasheet revision planned this month.

    Regards,
    Liam
