TCAN1043-Q1: differential resistance loads (RCBF)

Part Number: TCAN1043-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1043

Hi Team,

The datasheet shows the following.
-------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------
1)
I believe CAN Bus failure is detected when RCBF is out of range of 45~70ohm for more than tCBF_MIN.
Is my understanding correct?

2)
I couldn't catch the condition of the following "RCM=RL".
I believe RL is differential resistance between CANH and CANL but RL shouldn't be set for RCBF parameter.
Could you clarify it?

  • Hello Yaita-san,

The TCAN1043 is able to reliably detect the different bus fault conditions defined in datasheet section 10.3.6 if the RCBF value (differential resistance between CANH and CANL) is within the specified range. For higher or lower resistance values, the fault detection may not work in all cases. You are correct, though, that the fault duration needs to exceed tCBF to be detected.

I agree that the test condition you highlighted is unclear, but can confirm that your understanding that RCBF is the load resistance between CANH and CANL is correct. Thank you for pointing this out.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

  • Hi Max-san,

Thank you for your support. I understand the following.
    >TCAN1043 is able to reliably detect the different bus fault conditions defined in datasheet section 10.3.6 if the RCBF value (differential resistance between CANH and CANL) is within the specified range.

Could you tell me how to detect the following six faults in detail?
    Is there any information?

    1. CANH bus pin shorted VSUP
    2. CANH bus pin shorted VCC
    3. CANH bus pin shorted GND
    4. CANL bus pin shorted VSUP
    5. CANL bus pin shorted VCC
    6. CANL bus pin shorted GND

    Best Regards,
    Yaita

  • Yaita-san,

Unfortunately I cannot disclose the fault detection mechanism publicly since it is considered confidential to TI. If you would like I can contact you privately via the e-mail address used by your myTI account and we can discuss this further once I verify that an NDA is in place.
