Hi Sir

My customer "Avalue" have some questions for design IEEE1588  Precision Time Protocol.

Based on COM Express V3.0 Type10 new define Row A49 : GBE0_SDP.

They want use the 1 pin SDP to Design the IEEE1588 Precision Time Protocol.

 

  1. How to design this function? (System Diagram)

  2. If we want connect to LAN hub used IEEE1588 Precision Time Protocol in Local Area Network, how to design hardware pin define?

  3. How to define our device is Master or Slaver?

  4. How to use in practical applications and test solution?

    Is this for Gigabit 1588 Application? For Gigabit ethernet, we do not have a PHY with 1588 hardware time stamp. DP83867 can support SFD feature which alerts the MAC exactly when a packet arrives at the PHY. Using this the MAC can perform the timerstamping. In other words, timestamping and synchronization will be performed by the MAC. We do not have reference material for Gigabit application.
    For 10/100 Application, we have DP83640 which can support hardware time stamping. There is also reference material on the DP83640 webpage.
