AMIC110: EtherCAT with DP83848x PHY

Part Number: AMIC110

Hi

Is it possible to use DP83848x for AMIC110 EtherCAT application?
We do understand that DP83822 is the recommended one, but due to cost constraint
we are considering DP83848x.

Please let me know if this PHY is a feasible option.

Best Regards
paddu

  • Hello Paddu,

DP83848 is qualified for EtherCAT applications. You can find this information in Beckhoff EthertCAT PHY selection guide. In order to use it with AMIC110, you will need to make some system level changes but it should be ok to use.

  • Hi Aniruddha,

Thank you very much for the information.
Good to know that DP83848 is qualified for EtherCAT.

The Beckhoff EthertCAT PHY selection guide mentions that
this PHY require Enhanced Link Detection to be activated in order to achieve sufficient link loss,
could you please let me know how this could be implemented if we use AMIC110.
Do we need any hardware modification? it could be helpful if there is any reference schematics.

  • Hi Paddu,

Some hardware modification will be required if you plan to use the AMIC110 reference design and change it for DP83848. However, we do not have a roll-over document for this. Comparing datasheets would be the best option for identifying changes required for DP83848.
