TCA9548A: I2C pullups-translation in I2c switch.

Part Number: TCA9548A

TCA9548A This part description shows, 8bit bidirectional translating I 2C switch. So can I connect one side 3.3V(pin 22,23) and other side 1.8V(other 8pairs) pullups.

During the channel selection, this 3.3V will not come into 1.8V rail. can i connect in this way??

  • Hi Vignesh,

The TCA9548A can operate as a bidirectional voltage translator in this way, allowing a master (pin 22, 23) and slave devices to have different pull-up voltages on different sides of the device.

Be sure when using this device as a translator, you power Vcc properly to limit the maximum voltage that can pass between buses. "In order for the TCA9548A to act as a voltage translator, the Vpass voltage must be equal to or lower than the lowest bus voltage." The correct Vcc to achieve this Vpass can be found on Figure 14 of the datasheet.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric
