SN65HVD09: Reference design

Part Number: SN65HVD09
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THVD1500

Hi to all,

I want to use the 9 channels rs-485 transceiver sn65hvd09 for an industrial application, it should be useful to have a reference design or an example board, where can I found it?

Thanks.

Daniele

  • Hi Daniele,

Figures 19 through 42 in the datasheet are a useful reference on how to set the various control inputs to correspond to different transmit and receive channel configurations. Once you have this determined, the device is relatively straightforward - the logic interfaces could connect to an MCU/UART/etc. using single-ended signaling, and the differential I/O of the device could connect to an RS-485 or RS-422 bus. For an example implementation of a single channel, you could refer to the THVD1500 datasheet. This implementation would just be repeated nine times for the SN65HVD09 part.

I hope this helps - please let me know if you have any questions.

    Regards,

  • What I really need is to connect the transceiver to a uC to have ttl->485, then have a second transceiver that receive the 485 signals and translate them 485->ttl, so with a couple of sn65hvd09 I could have a robust transmission (cable lenght is about 2.5m), I'm right with this solution?
  • Daniele,

Yes, that is the intended usage of this device and so I do not see an issue. Please let us know if you encounter any problems as you progress through your design.
