TUSB8041: Difference in power rail capacitors from TUSB8041 manual and eval board user guide

Part Number: TUSB8041

I had a question on the schematics given for the TUSB8041 and for the TUSB8041RGC REVD EVM in their respective manuals.

In the TUSB8041 manual   on page 34, the power rails have 0.1 uF capacitors that are to be placed as close to possible to the power pins but in the TUSB8041RGC REVD EVM User guide on page 9, the power rails have more capacitors and they vary in value. I was just curious on why they are different.

Thanks,

Sam

  • Hi Sam,

Either solution is valid, as long as there is at least one decoupling cap per power pin. Some engineers prefer to vary the values of the decoupling capacitors to provide better range of high frequency noise rejection, but this has not been found to be a concern with this device so you can either vary the values or keep them the same.
