HD3SS3411: Definition of Switching Time

Part Number: HD3SS3411

Hi

I just want to confirm the definition of the switching time that is listed in the data sheet. Does it mean the time it takes from the rising/falling edge of the SEL signal to the time that the input signal is switching to another output port? Also the propagation delay means the time between the signal shows up at the input port and the signal shows up at the output port. What is the output capacitor load in the testing?

Thanks,

  • Hi Jiyue,

Yes switching time is defined as SEL LH or HL to the output port.

Yes propagation time is defined as Input Port to Output Port.  For the propagation delay testing there is not lumped or discrete capacitive loading.  The testing is carried out in a transmission line environment to best emulate the normal application.

  • Thanks Lee!

May I ask how is the switching time being test? Is the output also loaded with terminated transmission line when switching time is measured?

    Best,

    Jiyue

  • Hi Jiyue,

The switching time is generally measured and characterized on a high speed bench.  The output loading is a terminated transmission line.

    Here is a typical setup

Set one input = High, Set the other input = Low

    Switch "Select" pin.

Monitor Select input and device output transitions to measure time difference.
