TCA5013: Using TCA5013 as a Simple Smart Card Reader without using SAM Modules

Can I use TCA5013 without using the SAM Modules, just to read only as the Smart Card Reader? Is there any dedicated only Smart card Reader IC without SAM Module? I Prefer serial Interface (UART) if available as interface to host processor.
