TI TUSB2077A and PCM2900B compatibility issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB2077A, PCM2900B, MSP430F5510

We have a design with TUSB2077A hub, down stream with the followings:

-  PCM2900B codec

- MSP430F5510

- PIDUSBD12 from Philips/NXP/ST Ericson

other 4 ports are open.

The codec PCM2900B line in/button in (mute/up/down) only work with certain computers, some machines show problem in recognizing the line in port. Is there any issue with the TUSB2077A and PCM2900B combination?

Thanks,

Yao

  • Yao,

The fact that it works on some computers but not on others point to a software (PC-side driver) issue and not a hardware issue with the TUSB2077A/PCM2900B combo.

High level look says that the 2900B wants to be a composite device - AUDIO Class and HID Class, and this is not being recognized correctly on some computers, or the audio support on the computers that do not work does not have the capability to support that functions.

  • Thanks Dan. The USB compatibility issue could happen in silicon, as much of the protocal is hard coded to reduce latency and dev cost/time. One example is old Philips PIDUSBD11, which was discontinued for 2.0 compliance issue. I'm guessing hub 2077A which is USB 1.1 may run into this, can you forward this to factory?

The issue is causing major design failure, need help ASAP.

  • Do you have the capability to bypass the TUSB2077A with the PCM2900B device on a PC where the button does not work and see if they problem still exists?  The TUSB2077A is on the USB-IF Integrators List and has no known compatibility issues with USB full-speed devices like the PCM2900B.
