Hi,

My customer is looking for a way that their system detects how much current is drawn by their load. Do you have any ideas?

TPS2549-Q1 has internal current sense and CS pin as its indicator. It's really useful this feature can be used to monitor the load current, the customer can prevent to have sense resistor on the power rail.

Hi Kenichiro-san,
It might be possible to monitor the voltage on the ILIM_HI pin with a high impedance buffer. It should be proportional to load current.

Thank you for sharing your idea.

I did understand that ILIM_LO and ILIM_HI pins are used just to set its threshold and don't respond to its load current. Have you tried this before?

Hi Kenichiro-san,

After discussion with some other team members, the ILIM_LO and ILIM_HI pins work a little differently on TPS2549-Q1 compared to other devices. My suggesting to monitor the voltage on the ILIM_HI pin will not work.

We have a similar BC1.2 controller, TPS254900-Q1, which has an IMON pin output which can be used for monitoring load current. Key differences between TPS2549-Q1 and TPS254900-Q1:

TPS254900-Q1: adds short to VBAT protection. Removes DCP (charging with no USB2.0 data) mode.
