DP83848I: Question about center tab

Part Number: DP83848I

Hi

I had a couple of questions about center tab of DP83848I.

1. What is expected problem if there is no center tab?(ex. noise immunity, bad waveform or error rate, etc)

2. If different source is used at data line pull up and center tab, what is expected impact?

when use different source, error rate and response time was improved. Is it related to source?

3. Is capacitor at center tab to GND for DC cancellation?

If correct, can transformer go to saturation by DC voltage when capacitor is removed?

Could you explain with some example?

Thanks.

  • Hi David,

The DP83848I requires center tap to VDD. It is a current mode line driver and without it the driver will not work properly.
    You will see wave distortion.

It is fine if the source is different. The voltage needs to be 3.3V still.

Cap to GND is for decoupling. It is to help improve the noise filtering.
