TCA9548A: State of outputs with un-powered device.

Part Number: TCA9548A

From the datasheet of the I2C switch it is not clear to me what the state is of the I2C buses are as long as the switch is not powered. Are they all (master and slaves) in high-Z state or in an undefined state?

Thanks for any help/support.

Best regards, Robert.

  • Hey Robert,

If Vcc of the switch is not powered then the switch will be high impedance.

"Are they all (master and slaves) in high-Z state or in an undefined state?"
I assume if the slaves are on the switch channels and the master is on the main channel then the master will not be able to communicate to the slaves because the switch is HI-Z. The slaves would just see Vcc because of the pull up resistor. (This is assuming Vcc of the switch is separate from the Vcc of slaves AND pull up resistor).

    Thanks,
    -Bobby
