TPD2S300: On-resistor and Surge performance

Part Number: TPD2S300
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ESD204, TVS0500, ESDS314

TPD2S300:

  1. Since our spec only show 8.7V and 2.7V VM on-resistor, customers want to know the 3.45V VM’s on resistor;
  2. What is the Surge performance? If TPD2S300 can not handle the surge, does TI have any device similar with TPD2S300 but with surge support.

  • Ryan,

    1. Rdson for VM of 3.3V will be similar to 2.7Vm and will be less than 0.5ohms upto Vcc of 1.5V as appose to 1.0V with VM=2.7V. If the Vcc increases beyond 1.5V the Rdson begins to rise and can reach its peak of upto 6.8ohms at Vcc=2.4V before starting to slowly drop.

    2. As shared in email by the Protection team, surge requirements are needed to provide suggestions.  For 6A Surge you could consider the ESD204 (www.ti.com/product/ESD204). If a higher surge is needed please let us know we have TVS0500 and ESDS314. TPD2S300 is not desinged for IEC defined surge protection requirements.

    Best Regards,

  • Ryan,

    1. There are only 2 modes of operation for the on resistor of the TPD2S300. Place 2.7 V–4.5 V and 8.7-22V The 3.45VM will be the same as the 2.7V.
    2. There is no dedicated surge protection within the TPD2S300 and no similar device in the portfolio. Your customer can use the www.ti.com/.../tvs0500 in conjunction with the TPD2S300 to achevice Surge, IEC, and short to VBUS.

    Regards,
    Chuck
