DS125BR820: Before entering DS125BR820 signal had decay -14dB, how many dB can DS125BR820 recover?

Part Number: DS125BR820

Hi

One quick question.

Before entering DS125BR820 signal had decay -14dB, how many dB can DS125BR820 recover?

Thanks!

PY Tsai

  • The DS125BR820 is capable of ~10dB of signal compensation in the 8-12 Gbps range.

  • Lee,

If the signal is -20dB decay, can i use two DS125BR820 in serial to compensate 20dB?

    thanks!

  • Hi PY,

The DS125BR820 is designed to be a part of the overall link compensation.  For PCIe links I recommend to keep the total channel loss between the system Tx and Rx at < 32 dB @ 4GHz. Under this condition the DS125BR820 is responsible for 10 dB and the PCIe system components are designed to handle the other 22 dB.

For links extending beyond 32 dB it is possible to daisy chain DS125BR820 devices together for additional compensation.  This technique carries risk since the overall link attenuation is quite high and just a little crosstalk/noise can significantly degrade the system margin and result in bit errors or poor system performance.  For this reason we recommend to keep link attenuation below 32 dB and use only a single DS125BR820 equalizer in the channel.

    Regards,
