TPD8S300A: When would you want to use the 8 channel TPD8S300 vs. 6 channel TPD6S300

Part Number: TPD8S300A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD8S300, TPD6S300, TPS65982

Quick question.  Can you explain the use case where you would want to use the 8 channel TPD8S300 vs. 6 channel  TPD6S300?  What is the use case where each of the two DP and DM pins need to each have their own ESD protection (i.e. is there a use case where the DP and DM pins need to be electrically isolated on the board and not tied together, and therefore need separate protection)?

Thanks,

Matt

  • Matthew,

There are parts like TPS65982 where all for USB2.0 signal from receptacle will go to the device. The device has a mux that muxes them based on cable orientation. For more details on possible different uses of those bottom D+/D- pins you can refer to the datasheet of TPS65982( ), section 8.3.4.
