TPS65986: Thumb Drive Not Detected on Second Insertion

Part Number: TPS65986

When we plug in a thumb drive into the TPS65986 type C port, we can see it and read the thumb drive.

If we unplug it and then re-insert it, we cannot see it. If we reboot, we can now see it again.

We have GPIO0 set to detect if something is plugged in, it’s a 1 if something is plugged in and 0 if not.

GPIO1 is set to indicate if we are a Host 0 or Device 1 and that works.

You have the schematic and TPS65986 configuration. Any idea what might be causing this? Are changes to the configuration required?

  • Hi Aarmutat,

There's a lot more involved in detecting a pen drive then PD.

To me, this looks like an issue with USB host of the PC rather than PD, as there's no role of PD in USB communication apart from providing higher power.

As you're saying GPIO0 is working as expected this indicates that probably there's no issue with PD itself.

    Thanks,
    Rahul
