TCA9517: Monitoring the activity of the HDMI DDC bus

Part Number: TCA9517

Hi Team,

My customer wants to monitor the HDMI DDC bus between the video source and sink, so I recommended them the TCA9517 as a buffer.

Basically, we want the MCU to be able to see the transactions between the PC and the monitor.

Do you think this configuration work?

Thanks!

Roy Hsu

  • Hello Roy,

TCA9517 has a static voltage offset on the B side and thus buffers cannot be connected to each other's static voltage offsets. Therefore you should not connect the B sides of the devices together. A-B is okay and A-A is okay but not A-B.

Can you also specify what voltages and max frequency?

    Thanks,
    -Bobby
  • Hi Bobby,

    1. I don't think there's any B-B connection in the diagram... Could you point out the connection you're talking about?

    2. The DDC bus should be rated at 5V and the frequency is 400 kHz.

    Thanks!

  • Hey Roy,

    1. Your new diagram looks correct with TCA9517's A to A side together and I do not see any problems.

    2. TCA9517 meets the requirements you've specified.

    Thanks,
    -Bobby
