UCC21520: Vil interface with the PWM controller

Part Number: UCC21520

Hil,

I am using  driver UCC21520ADW for driving the GAN FET from my PWM controller.
PWM controller
Vgate high:10.5V
Vgate low:1.5V(max) at Isink=5mA
UCC21520ADW:
Vih:1.6V(min)
Vil:0.8V(min)

 PWM controller switching frequency:1 MHz

What would be the sinking current flows to the PWM controller?

UCC21520ADW also has an internal pull down of 200k ohm.Is it sufficient to sink the current?

Thanks in advance,

Selvam.

  • Hi Selvam,

Unfortunately, I don't think these two ICs can be used seemlessly. As you've highlighted, the logic low signal isn't compatible between the two parts.

Sorry, but we don't specify the IIL of our device, but I would estimate it at 10-15 uA. Depending on the architecture of the PWM controller you're using, it might be able to pull the output to 0.8V with such a small load on it.

Can you share the p/n of the PWM controller?
  • Thank you Don for your response.
In PWM controller,Vol =1.5V(max) for the sinking current of 5mA.
Assume that my PWM controller is not sinking current.i.e Just open for low output.
In UCC21520,it has an internal pull down resistor of 200K ohm.Is it sufficient to sink its IIl?

  • Hi Selvam,

Sorry, I just realized I didn't respond to you.

I looked at the controller. It is designed to drive FET directly, so their specification is for that. I would assume this part could work with our device, but you'll have to ask Infineon about that, I don't know the internals of their IC.

Worse case, you could use a level translator circuit to make the two parts work together.

Let me know if you have any further questions!
