We have changed our viewfinder standard from HDMI to DisplayPort.

My question is:

1-can we still use the sn65dp159 rsb (40 pin package) for DisplayPort retimer. I was reading apn slla358 “dp159 ad dp retimre and the write about the 48 pin rgz package?

2- in another design I noticed that a sn75dp130 retimer is used? What do you suggest?

Right now I have the following:

Source:

Xilinx DP core>dp159>tusb1046 switch>cypress ccg3 PD ctrl>USB-C

Sink:

Viewfinder:

USB-C>cypress ccg3 PD ctrl> Altera DP core (no switch , no retimer)

I am a bit worried about the AUX signals and how the dp159 and the tusb1046 will work. For power reasons we want to switch from 4<=> 2 DP lanes.

The TUSB1046 is also a redriver. Why would you want a source => Retimer => redriver? you should not need both the retimer and the redriver.

Thanks but we have quite a long distance to cope with. the signals go from one board to another board via flex conduit. as looks right now about 15 inches from DP source to Type-connector. I plan the DP159 in the middle and the tusb1046 towards the type-C connector.
i think its best to have the sbu1/2 signals from the connector directly connectes to the tusb1046 and not via the cypress ccg3?

Hi Ron,

If the DP159 is used in DP to DP retimer mode (x-mode), we recommend the RGZ package be used so the AUX pins can be used for refclk generation if needed. Please be aware that DP to DP retimer mode requires external control of the DP159 for link training, etc. there is no standalone pin configuration mode.

Hello JMMN,
is replacing the dp 159 with a tusb1046 an option, so two tusb1046 one as retimer and one as retimer/switch (USB-C)??
just asking.

HI Ron,

The TUSB1046 is a linear redriver only. If you are concerned about board signal quality, you may want to go with:

Xilinx DP core>sn75dp130>tusb1046 switch>cypress ccg3 PD ctrl>USB-C

The DP130 is easier to implement than the DP159 in x-mode.

Thanks, yes i have been looking at the dp130 but it has limited speed capabilies compared to the dp159 (6 Gbps) and in the near future we need DP1.4 speeds.

Or do you think the dp130 can handle dp 1.4?

Currently, we do not have a DP1.4 retimer solution.

If you are looking for a pure DP redriver solution, you may want to take a look at SN65DP141, that is a DP redriver supporting DP1.4.
