TMDS181: Do any of the I2C-based Tx termination options cause the chip to use less power?

Part Number: TMDS181

We are only driving the outputs of the TMDS181 into another driver about 2 inches away, so termination may not be an issue for us. So we might just like to pick the option that uses the least amount of power. Which setting uses the least power?

  • Hi Anthony,

TX termination settings will have minimal impact on power. With a short TX path, you can drop the Vswing using I2C or by increasing the Rsadj resistor which will drop power a little. The biggest power impact would be going to redriver mode vs retimer mode. Redriver mode is usually sufficient up to 3G, but retimer mode is preferred at 6G (HDMI 2.0) speeds.
