SN65HVD52: Fully Enabled no DE/RE pins?

Part Number: SN65HVD52

The SN65HVD52 is "fully enabled with no external enabling pins. I'm used to 485 chips with a DE/RE pins."

If the Tx line is always enabled, how will this work in 485 multidrop connections. Would this the SN65HVD52 only work as a master? Or can this chip be used with multiple slave devices? If not, would I have to use the D53/54/55 series with DE/RE pins?

    Michael,

    Yes, this part only makes sense in specific applications - either as a master in a full-duplex network or as half of a point-to-point full duplex connection. Outside of these applications at least a "DE" control would be needed to prevent bus contention between active transmitters.
