TCA9548A: About Io(Output current) in Absolute Maximum Ratings

Part Number: TCA9548A

Hi team.

My customer inquires about the output current in TCA9548A datasheet.

As shown in the following image, when RC_SCL goes low, the peak current momentarily exceeds 25mA.

                                                 <Oscilloscope Full>

                                                 <Oscilloscope Zoom>

Each output has a 10k ohm pull-up and ESD protection diode is applied..

1. If the peak current exceed 25mA for a moment, what happend any problem with the IC?

2. Is the Io(output current) specification in the datasheet a continuous condition? Or does it include peak current like ns time?

Thank you

  • Hello Charles,

    "If the peak current exceed 25mA for a moment, what happend any problem with the IC?"

    I do not expect the device to break immediately but I do think it could result in an increase rate of failures over time.

    " Is the Io(output current) specification in the datasheet a continuous condition? Or does it include peak current like ns time?"

    It is a continuous current. I suggest you increase the values of the pull up resistors a bit (looks like you have 1k pull ups on the main channel which I would probably target first as they will have a larger affect)

    Thanks,
