TPS65983B: Host Utilities Connection Issues

Part Number: TPS65983B

Hello,

We are trying to use the TPS6598x Host Utilities program to connect to the TPS65983B chip. However, Windows doesn’t seem to be able to find a driver for this chip, so I don’t believe the Host Utilities program can connect to the chip. I was wondering if you would be able to help with this.

Any troubleshooting tips are appreciated!

Regards,
Ryan B.

  • Hi Ryan,

How are you connecting the TPS65983B board to the PC? I hope you're using an Aardvark.

You need an Aardvark as an USB to I2C bridge to enable connection between PC and the chip.

    Thanks,
    Rahul
  • Hi Rahul,

I was trying to connect to the TPS65983B through the USB Type-C port that it is connected to. The TPS65983B chip showed up in device manager on Windows 7 as an unknown device, with the name "TPS65983B". Windows 7 did seem to recognize it, however it did not have a driver for it. When I tried to connect to it through the TI TPS6598x Utilities GUI program, which I believe is also known as the TPS6598x Host Interface Tools. The version of the TI TPS6598x Utilities GUI I am using is Version 2.3.

Is there a newer version of the TI TPS6598x Utilities GUI program I should be using? Is it possible that it is not compatible with Windows 7 and I should be using another version of Windows? Does this program only work with the Aardvark?

    Thank you,
    Joshua
  • Hi Joshua,

The latest version of Customization tool is 3.17. You can request access to the same from TPS65983B web-page. This tool is compatible with Windows7 and will work with Aardvark and USB end-point.

    Thanks,
    Rahul
  • Hi Rahul,

I have the Customization Tool. I believe it is actually version 3.19. Should I be using version 3.17?

Do I not need the TPS6598x Host Interface tool to be connecting to the TPS65983B?

    Thank you,

    Joshua

  • Hi Joshua,

You can use any of the version, 3.17 or 3.19. Yes, you'll need Host Interface Tool as well.

    Thanks,
    Rahul
