DS90UB960-Q1: Power design recommendation and power consumption

Part Number: DS90UB960-Q1

Hello Team,

The DS90UB960-Q1 requires

VDD11

VDD18

VDDIO 1V8 or 3V3

1. How can I estimate the max power consumption to select the right current limit for my supplies of the listed rails above?

2. Which power topology (LDO or DCDC) would you recommend for the dedicated rails? Is any of these rails very noise sensitive?

I have checked the datasheet on page 158 Power Supply Recommendations and the pin specification which mentions 5% voltage tolerance. Depending on the power needs asked in question 1 I would prefer DCDC only, because I need to supply several DES. By the way on the EVM LDOs are used.

Thanks in advance

Joern

  • Hello Joern,

    1. The maximum IDD is provided for each of the VDD rails (VDD11, VDD18, and VDDIO). Conservatively, use VDD max values(typ*1.05) in conjunction with the max currents for estimating the maximum power consumption.

    2. Either option is acceptable. For better efficiency, use DC-DC converters. The maximum supply noise for each rails is given in the Recommended Operating Conditions section of the DS90UB960-Q1 datasheet.
