convert eDP or DDI to DVI

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65DP159

Hello, Do we have a device or reference design that can convert eDP or DDI to DVI?
Thanks!

Best regards, Patrick

  • Yes, you can convert eDP to DVI with the SN65DP159, but the eDP source will have to output DP++ for device to convert it to DVI.

  • Hello Michael,

I'm working with a carrier board using a E3900 processor from Intel.

I have the choice between an eDP source or DDI source to feed a DVI monitor.

What you are saying is that I should ask the manufacturer if the eDP source outputs DP++, is that the only condition ? In this case, does the AUX signal is used as the DDC interface for DVI ?

Could this work for a DDI source ? I thought at first eDP and DP were electrically equivalent but apparently it isn't the case. All of these formats are a little confusing.

    Best regards,
    Adrien
  • Hello,
The source must support the DP++ because that is the only way the DP159 can convert the eDP protocal to DVI. The source should also support clock stretching on the source. I suggest you thoroughly read the DP159 datasheet.

The DP159 cannot work with a DDI source. The difference between eDP and DP are the signal levels.
