TPS65983B: TBT3 Pre-EV Vbus short protection

Dear Sir,

Our product TB3-Dock failed in Vbus short protection during TBT3 Pre-EV test. TPS65983B damaged when doing the 9V Vbus short test. After short, the TPS65983 OCP and hiccup. When hiccup, the voltage of PP_HV is 9V, the output voltage (Vbus) of TPS65983 is 0.5V, the current from PP_HV to Vbus is 3.5A, TPS65983 need to suffer (9V – 0.5V)*3.5A = 29.75W power dissipation, need to suffer 100ms every 400ms a cycle, as the waveform attached. The high power dissipation damaged TPS65983. We got a pass waveform of other vendor’s product, as the attachment, the hiccup only last for 5ms, no damage.

Why our product’s OCP hiccup last for 100ms? FW issues? The FW of our DUT is TPS65983_fw4_intel_Apex_Creek_CH_A_v3_10 (rev4.45). Then I updated the FW to TPS65983_fw6_intel_Apex_Creek_CH_A_v3_17 (rev6.43), the behavior were the same, nothing improve.

By the way, our product there is something different with the Apex Creek reference design, as the block diagram as attachment, which is the newest FW fit for this product?
