HD3SS3212: The USB trace length at -1.6dB insertion loss.

Hi Team,

Please help to estimate the trace length we can go, at -1.6dB insertion loss.

Our board is FR-4 material and microstrip structure.

Please kindly help to estimate this trace loss length, customer need this value to modify the placement, and DIN HD3SS3212.

Daniel,

The insertion loss of FR-4 is Frequency dependent and dependent on the width of the trace, what is the max data rate and trace width for your application? For reference FR-4 Loss @5 GHz width 4 mils in width is ~-0.8691dB / inch.

Daniel,

USB 3.1 Gen2 data rate is 10 Gbps or a maximum frequency of 5 GHz. The value given in my previous post is for USB 3.1 Gen2.
