TUSB8020B: Clarification on power consumption for active modes

Part Number: TUSB8020B

Hi Team,

I'd like to get some clarification on the power consumption of the TUSB8020B during different active modes. In section 7.7 of the datasheet, I'm comparing the total power consumption of "3.0 host / 2SS devices and hub in U0" vs "3.0 host / 1 SS and 1 HS device in U0".

I'm calculating power consumption of the 1SS + 1HS configuration to be 707mW but the 2SS configuration is only 667mW (40mW lower). Is this true or am I overlooking something? I was under the impression that running 2SS devices would be more power intensive.

Any clarification you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mitchell

  • Hi Mitchell,

If two SS devices are connected and no HS devices, the USB 2.0 portion of the hub goes to its lowest power state resulting in a power savings. If one SS device is connected and one HS device is connected both the USB 3.0 portion of the hub and the USB 2.0 portion of the hub are in the highest power state (active).

    Regards,
