TPS25740: USB 2.0 PD Standard-A Connector

Part Number: TPS25740
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2514A

Hello,

The USB Power Delivery Specification Revision 2.0, Version 1.3 defines pinout and requirements for using USB Power Delivery with a Standard-A Connector (See Section 3.2.3).

The spec defines a 13-pin Standard-A connector with two "PD Detect" Pins and two "Insertion Detect" pins:

1)  Does TI have a USB PD charging controller that can work with a USB 2.0 PD Standard-A Connector?

2)  Do  PD Detect pins use the same protocol as the CC pins in Type-C?  Ultimately we want to connect iPad Pro 12.9" devices to USB-PD, but we must use Standard-A connectors.  We can build out own USB 2.0 PD to Lightening if the signals are compatible.

  • Hi Matt,

    1) Unfortunately, the TPS25740 does not have dedicated D+/D- pins for Type A connectors applications. This is why on its EVM we use the TPS2514A (separate IC) to handle this.
    2) The protocols for D+/D- and the CC lines are not the same. They cannot be used interchangeably.

    Regards,
    Darwin
