TPS65986: Using TPS65986 with 24V Vin

Part Number: TPS65986

Hi Team,

My customer would like to implement USB-C with TPS65986. The USB-C would need to support 24V rail. Please let us know if TPS65986+TIDA00233 can support such spec need.

If not, how about using an LDO to step down 24V to 19V for Vbus for TPS65986? Is such design do-able?

Thanks.

Best regards,

Andy Chu

  • Hi Yen,

24V is the absolute max which can be supported by TPS65986, therefore it's not recommended to use it for 24V rail. Moreover, the typical voltage over USB PD is limited to 20V and anything beyond that will make in non-compliant.

As mentioned by you, a LDO or DC-DC converter can be used to bring down the voltage to 20V and then you can use TPS65986.

    Thanks,
