Hi Sir,

Is there any method to switch the HUB driver from Generic mode to Programming mode automatically ?

Our goal is to overwrite the PCB serial number(PCB SN) by the finished goods serial number(FGSN) into HUB EEPROM in FATP(final assembly, testing and packing) stage without manually switch the driver mode.
Status description: our product manufacture has two stages, SMT ( surface mount technology ) and FATP.

In SMT stage, we will burn a PCB SN (for PCBA tracking) in HUB EEPROM. Before this step, HUB driver default in programming mode. After burning PCB SN, HUB driver automatically changes to generic mode(non-programming mode).

In the FATP stage, we can’t overwrite PCB SN by FGSN until the HUB driver is changed into programming modemanually.

Hi Driscoll,

The hub will automatically come up in programming mode if there is a blank EEPROM attached, but it defaults to regular operation mode with a programmed EEPROM. To force it back to programming mode, the driver must be manually loaded.

Hi JMMN,

We have another HUB issue. The "TUSB8040 EEPROM Programmer" open time is getting longer. It drags our produce speed.
We open the programming tool before downloading FW, then close the programming tool. At first, the tool opening only takes 1s. After 200 rounds, it takes 60s or more.
We had tried reboot PC, reinstall programming tool and reinstall programming driver, but it didn't work.

1. Any possibility that "TUSB8040 EEPROM Programmer" open time is getting longer?
2. Does updates solve this issue? (If so, please provide the latest tool and driver.)

You have the latest version of the tool. Is it possible to leave the utility open? Or are there programming issues?

It can't do that. We tried to this way. When I connect other board, the programming will become gray and can not program.

As show below image.

We sure we have connect device (PCB board).

BTW, we have recently a issue in factory. We reprogram the HUB EEPROM at FATP(final assembly, testing and packing), the HUB driver should be automatically changes to generic mode(non-programming mode). But some product's HUB driver keep programming mode. It cause these products loss HUB function.

1. Why the HUB driver will not automatically changes to generic mode?
2. Do you have anything solution?

Hi Driscoll,

There are two reasons for the hub to remain in programming mode:

SMBUSz is asserted and the SMBUS host has not set/cleared the cfg active bit
An unprogrammed EEPROM is attached

It is most likely the EEPROM failed to program. After using the programming utility to load the file into the EEPROM they can verify if it loaded or not.

I would recommend reading back at least the first register to confirm it was been written.

Also, in our lab we are able to open and close the utility 100s of times without it slowing down, have you found the cause of this issue?
