DP83867IS: RJ45 with integrated transformer

Part Number: DP83867IS

Hello,

My customer will be using the DP83867 with this RJ45+Transformer: https://belfuse.com/resources/StewartConnector/0826-1A1T-23-F.pdf

Do they need to split the ground planes and connect the planes together with two 1000pF, 2kV cap as shown in figure 36?

I ask because I noticed their connector has a 2kV capacitor already integrated. What's integrated in this connector looks just like the circuitry in figure 26.

What should we recommend:

  1. Still create a split ground and add two more 2kV capacitors like Figure 36 in the datasheet?

    or

  2. Simply connect the shield of the connector to ground since it already has a 2kV capacitor like Figure 26 in the datasheet?

Also, can two side-by-side RJ45 connectors share the same chassis ground?

Thank you,
Ryan B.

  • Hi Ryan,

Yes, Its recomended to isolate RJ-45 chasis ground with System or Phy Power supply Ground. It helps in isolating the noise present on the line interferring with power supply.

I think connecting two RJ-45 to same ground shall be ok.
