Bidirectional digital isolator for CAN

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO1050, ISO1042

Hi,

Customers want to realize the following circuits.
Customer is looking for a solution to isolate and connect two different CAN bus.
Are there any TI device that you recommend?
(ISO1050 is not a corresponding product.)

Best Regards,
Yusuke

  • Hi Yusuke,

Thanks for asking your question on E2E!

I do not know of any device we have that can do this alone, but I can make some recommendations on how to design such a system.

Essentially what you need is an isolated CAN repeater. We do have a reference design for this: http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-01487

If the goal is to get Unit 3 and Unit 4 isolated from Unit 1 and Unit 2, there may be another way to accomplish this. Consider the block diagram I have proposed below. This could be achieved by using an isolated CAN transceiver like the ISO1042 or ISO1050.

Would either of these solutions work for you?

    Best regards,

    Dan
