SN65DSI86: does eDP output compatible with passive DP to HDMI adapters

Part Number: SN65DSI86

Customer has to convert MIPI video signal to HDMI, but we don't have component able to perform this conversion directly. So idea is to use SN65DSI86 to convert MIPI to eDP and then use a passive adapter eDP to HDMI. It seems possible if source if DP++, but I didn't see any info about it on the DS.

SN65DSI86 does not support DP++, it supports eDP and DP. And to go from eDP to HDMI, you need a protocol converter.

Hi David, thanks for your ultra fast feedback. So if it doesn't support DP++, does it mean that customer has to use an active DP to HDMI adapter that we can find easily on the Web please ? I didn't check what is there inside this kind of adapater, if it's only level translator or if there's really some video processing ....

If it is DP++ to HDMI, then a level shfter is sufficient, typically these are labeled passive cables. For DP to HDMI, then you need a protocol converter, convert from DP packet data to HDMI stream data, which typically is a DP to HDMI active cable.
