TPS65986: Invalid Memory Flow VBus

Dear USB-PD Team,

my customer is using TPS65986 for a host port. During his bring up process he needs to access a USB flash drive (USB2.0 connection is good enough) to download firmware and software to the system. He would like to include the programming of the SPI flash during that process and has access from his processor to the SPI flash directly.

Will TPS65986 during the Invalid Memory Flow provide 5V to VBUS when a device with Rd connects? Would the customer need to bypass TPS65986 with the USB2.0 lines to ensure proper connection?

Hi Cevin,

I would suggest bypassing the TPS65986 in this use case. We would not have booted yet at this point of the system bringup and cannot close our power path without a valid configuration. I hope this helps.

thanks for your answer. So there is no fallback mode to ensure 5V at Vbus when Rd is presented?

Hi Cevin,

Not in the case you mentioned above. The PD Controller would not have booted yet in that case so we are not able to close our power path when an Rd is presented.
